Students from the BS Information Technology and BS Cyber Security Engineering programs attended a reception at the Virginia Executive Mansion in Richmond. The reception honored students who competed in the Cyber Fusion Competition held at Virginia Military Institute in February. Virginia Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson and Governor Terry McAuliffe welcomed the students during the reception.
“The Executive Mansion is a beautiful space with wonderful history,” said Peggy Brouse, Director of Volgenau’s Cyber Security Engineering program.
Cyber Security is one of the nation’s and the Commonwealth’s top priorities. For Virginia to continue leading in this rapidly evolving space, we must develop a sustainable talent pipeline capable of providing skilled, industry ready workers to meet this increasing demand. The Cyber Fusion is the organized integration of data and tools from disparate sources in support for secure and resilient system lifecycle.
Marco Perdomo, a Volgenau student majoring in Cyber Security Engineering said that he found the February event a worthwhile learning experience. “Being able to meet a variety of sponsor who were there to recruit and engage in a variety of challenges is always interesting and enjoyable.”
